The 3rd Viscoplastic Fluids: From Theory to Application workshop (VPF2009) was held in Limassol November 1-5, 2009. This workshop was the sequel of the meetings held in Banff, Canada (22-27 October 2005) and Monte Verita Switzerland (14-18 October, 2007). The goal of these workshops is to promote interactions between people from different communities working on viscoplastic fluids. The program included three invited talks by Professors Gareth McKinley, Morton M. Denn and Ken Walters, 37 regular talks and 5 poster presentations. The opening lecture by Gareth McKinley was dedicated to the memory of Professor Vladimir Entov (1937-2008). Despite many of the participants from past meeting could not attend participation to the meeting increased. With 48 registered participants from thirteen countries (Brasil, Canada, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Slovenia, UK and USA) the workshop was an international event.

The workshop was supported by the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Tourism Organization and the Cyprus Department of Antiquities. The meeting was coorganized by members George Georgiou and Andreas Alexandrou. Papers presented in VPF2009 will appear in a special issue of Rheologica Acta
